Questions Homeowners Ask Us

Straight answers to the things people ask before they call. If yours isn’t here, call (515) 350-6744 and ask.

Before You Call

The questions Central Iowa homeowners ask most.

How much is this going to cost?

It depends on the job, and anyone who gives you a number over the phone is guessing. What it comes down to is size and scope, materials, the condition of the site, how easily we can get equipment to it, and whether the work is a repair, a replacement, or a new installation. We’ll come out, look at it, and give you a real number. That part is free.

Do you charge for estimates?

No. Estimates are free, and there’s no pressure to sign anything. We’ll look at the project, listen to what’s concerning you, answer your questions, and explain the options. Then we leave and you decide.

Can you fix this, or does it all need replaced?

Sometimes a repair or a resurface will hold for years. Sometimes the base underneath is gone and patching it just moves the problem down the road. What decides it is how far the cracking has gone, what’s under the slab, and how water is draining around it. We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at, including when the answer is the cheaper one.

Can you come take a look and give me an estimate?

Yes. That’s how every job starts. Call (515) 350-6744 and we’ll set up a time.

My driveway is cracked and breaking up. Is that normal?

Some cracking is ordinary aging on Iowa concrete. Iowa winters put a slab through freeze-thaw cycles: water works into a hairline crack, freezes, expands, and opens it wider. Do that enough times and add heavy rain washing out the base and you get a driveway that’s breaking up. Whether it’s normal wear or a base problem is what we come out to look at.

Why does my basement get wet every time it rains?

Usually because water isn’t getting away from the house. Central Iowa gets hard, fast rain, and a lot of houses here have grading that has settled the wrong way, downspouts dumping right at the foundation, a crack water can travel through, or a sump pump that isn’t keeping up. We look at all of it before recommending anything.

My sump pump isn’t working. Can you repair it, or does it need replaced?

We do both. Which one makes sense depends on the pump’s age and how it failed. We’ll tell you honestly, because a repair on a pump that’s near the end of its life isn’t doing you any favors.

Water is getting into my crawl space. Do you handle that?

Yes. We do crawl space waterproofing and crawl space encapsulation.

Waterproofing services

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Commercial concrete work is part of what we do, alongside residential.

Concrete services

Do you do work other than concrete and waterproofing?

We take on other home improvement projects for homeowners and property owners. If you’ve got a project, give us a call and we’ll come take a look and tell you whether it’s something we handle.

Do you warranty your work?

Warranties are available on qualifying work. Ask us about it when we come out for the estimate, and we’ll tell you what applies to your project.

What happens if something on my property gets damaged during the job?

We take ownership of it. On one concrete repair job a sprinkler head and a solar light got damaged while the work was going on, and we replaced both of them without the customer having to ask. If there’s a problem, we’ll make it right.

Is my project too small to bother you with?

No. Your project matters, whether it’s big or small. A set of front steps is a real job.

What areas do you serve?

Pleasant Hill, Des Moines, Altoona, Ankeny, West Des Moines, Urbandale, Clive, Waukee, Grimes, Bondurant, and surrounding Central Iowa communities. Not sure if we come to you? Give us a call.
