Sound Familiar?
My driveway is cracked and breaking up.
- “My driveway is cracked and breaking up.”
- “I need a new concrete patio.”
- “My sidewalk is uneven.”
- “I need this concrete torn out and replaced.”
Cracking is the most common reason people call us, and it covers a wide range. Some of it is ordinary aging that a slab will carry for years. Some of it means the base underneath has washed out and the concrete is only doing what the ground under it is doing.
Those two look similar from the driveway and they need completely different work. Telling them apart is the reason we come out and look at it in person rather than quoting from a photo.
Why Iowa Concrete Cracks
Freeze, thaw, repeat.
Iowa winters put concrete through repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Water works into a hairline crack, freezes, expands, and opens it a little wider. Then it thaws and does it again. One winter does not do much. Ten of them do.
Add heavy spring rain washing out the base underneath, and a slab that looked fine two winters ago starts breaking up.
Whether that’s ordinary aging or a base problem is exactly what we come out to look at.
Concrete Work
Nine things we do in concrete around Des Moines.
- Concrete
- Foundations
- Waterproofing
- Home Improvement
Concrete Installation
New flatwork poured, formed, and finished — driveways, patios, walkways, steps, and floors.
Concrete Repair
Cracked, spalling, or settling concrete repaired where a repair is the right answer for the slab.
Concrete Resurfacing
A worn surface refinished over sound concrete, when the base underneath is still doing its job.
Concrete Driveways
Driveways installed and replaced, including tearing out a slab that has broken up past repair.
Concrete Floors
Garage, basement, and shop floors poured and finished flat.
Concrete Patios
Patios installed and replaced, including patios that have settled or pitched back toward the house.
Concrete Walkways
Walkways and sidewalks poured, replaced, or levelled where a section has lifted and gone uneven.
Concrete Steps
Front and back steps repaired or replaced. A set of front steps is a real job, and we treat it like one.
Commercial Concrete Work
Light commercial flatwork for property owners, alongside the residential side of what we do.
Repair Or Replace
Can you fix this, or does it all need replaced?
Sometimes a repair or a resurface will hold for years, and spending on a full replacement would be money you didn’t need to spend.
Sometimes the base underneath is gone, and patching it just moves the problem down the road a season or two.
What decides it is how far the cracking has gone, what’s under the slab, and how water is draining around it.
We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at — including when the answer is the cheaper one.
How Our Pricing Works
How much is this going to cost?
It's the first thing everybody wants to know, and the honest answer is that it depends on the job.
We don’t publish a price list, because we’d be guessing. What a project costs comes down to its size and scope, the materials it needs, the condition of the site, how easily we can get equipment to it, and whether the work is a repair, a replacement, or a new installation. A forty-foot driveway and a set of front steps aren’t the same job.
So instead of a number that would be wrong, we’ll come out, look at it, and give you a real one. That costs you nothing.
You give us a call
Tell us what's going on — the driveway is cracking up, the basement is taking on water, the sump pump quit. We'll set up a time to come out.
We come take a look
We look at the actual project, not a photo of it. Size, site conditions, drainage, access, and whether it makes more sense to repair it or tear it out and replace it.
We explain what needs to be done
In plain English, with the options laid out. If a repair will hold, we'll say so. If it won't, we'll tell you that too, and why.
You get a fair estimate
Free, in writing, with no pressure to sign anything. Take it and compare it against your other bids — that's what it's for.
